Criminal Background Checks

Effective August 20, 2012 a completed criminal history form is a required part of each license application. An application is deficient and cannot be processed until a Criminal Conviction Notification form has been completed and submitted.

Occupations Code. Title 2. Chapter 53. Subchapter A - D authorizes the TCEQ to consider criminal backgrounds on all applicants attempting to obtain or renew a license. The types of convictions requiring evaluation and the considerations being used to determine eligibility to obtain or renew a license are outlined in the guidance document linked below.

The form may be faxed to TCEQ Occupational Licensing at 512-239-6272 or emailed to Licenses@tceq.texas.gov.

Criminal Background Evaluation:

Individuals who believe that they may be ineligible to obtain an initial license due to a conviction or deferred adjudication may request an evaluation of their criminal conviction history prior to applying for the license. To request an evaluation, you may contact TCEQ at (512) 239-6133 or licenses@tceq.texas.gov to request a paper Criminal Conviction Evaluation form be mailed to you. Evaluations will not be performed for individuals that already have a TCEQ license or for individuals that are not actively seeking to obtain a TCEQ Occupational license.

Recommended Supplies:
Non-printing non-programable calculator, pencil, pencil sharpener, pen, hi-liter, eraser, eraser shield, engineer scale, bow compass and triangle.
Applications for the Landscape Irrigator exam will be provided at the class. Send completed applications and examination fees to Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) to schedule exam. Contact TEEX at 1-800-824-7303.

Recommended Supplies:
Pencil/pen, hi-liter, engineer scale. Applications for the Irrigation Technician exam will be provided at the class.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has adopted the University of Southern California (USC) 10th Edition Manual of Cross-Connection Control as the standard for backflow prevention assembly testing procedures. The 10th Edition Field Test Procedures will be taught in TCEQ #1200 & #1201 classes. TCEQ recommends all students attending these classes obtain a copy of the USC 10th Edition Manual of Cross-Connection Control to be used as a resource after the class.

Recommended Supplies: pencil/pen, hi-liter. You are welcome to bring your test kits to class however, three and five valve deferential gauges are available for use during class.

Applications for the BPAT license will be provided at all #1200 classes. Send completed applications and fees to TCEQ.

Completing 40 hours of course #1200 provides education credit for the following licenses:
40 hours for licensed Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers (BPAT)
100 hours for an applicant for a Plumbing Inspectors license (through TSBPE)
12 hours for Customer Service Inspectors (CI), Landscape Irrigators (LI), Irrigation Technicians (IT), Irrigation Inspectors (II), Water Operators (WO), Wastewater Operators (WW), Water Treatment Specialist (WT)

Completing 24 hours of course #1200 provides education credit for the following licenses:
24 hours for licensed Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers (BPAT)
8 hours for Customer Service Inspectors (CI), Landscape Irrigators (LI), Irrigation Technicians (IT), Irrigation Inspectors (II), Water Operators (WO), Wastewater Operators (WW), Water Treatment Specialist (WT)
